How to install MaaS360 onto an Android 8 Device

If you wish to access MacIntyre email on your Android device, MacIntyre supports a secure method using the MaaS360 system. This system keeps access to email, calendar, contacts and tasks separate from your personal content on your MacIntyre supplied device, in a secure container.

If you wish to set this up, first you need to contact IT Support to request access to MacIntyre email on your MacIntyre Android device. If the request is approved, they may generate an email, which you can use to install access, or they may ask you to just follow the below instructions.

Before the system can be installed on your Android device, you need to ensure you have a PIN (also known as a passcode) enabled on your device and have a PIN of 8 characters or more set-up. You also need to have already created your Google account. This must be done before following the below instructions.

Scan

Once you have received the request, either point your phone at the QR code in the email; which will open a link in your web browser; or; on the phone; visit the web link.

If you haven't been sent a QR code, you can use the following link on the phone, then continue with this FAQ:

Install

Tap 'Install'

Install app

This will open the Play Store for the 'MaaS360 MDM for Android' app

Tap 'Install'

Open

Once the app has installed, tap 'Open' to launch it

Configure

This MaaS360 app should open with your email address and Corporate ID pre-filled in, if so tap 'Continue'

If it doesn't, fill in the following fields, then tap 'Continue':
  1. Email Address: <your MacIntyre email address>
  2. Corporate ID: macintyre

Authenticate

Enter your MacIntyre email username (without @macintyrecharity.org); if it isn't already filled in; and password

Tap 'Continue'

Steps

Tap 'Continue'

License

Scroll through the 'License Information', then if you're happy to proceed, tick 'I have read and accept the terms' and tap 'Continue'

Access

Tap 'Continue'

Activate

Scroll down and tap 'Activate this device admin app'

On older devices, this may just state 'Activate'

Finishing

Tap 'Close'

Passcode

The MaaS360 requires a separate passcode to be able to access MacIntyre email, calendars, etc… Enter the passcode you want to access MaaS360 with.

The app may not instantly prompt for the passcode. In which case continue with these instructions and return to this step when prompted for the passcode.
Your PIN must be at least 8 characters, contain at least one letter and/or number

Confirm passcode

Confirm your chosen passcode

Leave the app open for a few minutes, to allow for it to set-up the MacIntyre configuration

PIN compliance

If your current device PIN is less than 6 characters, MaaS360 will prompt you to change it.

Tap 'Change Device Passcode'. If your passcode is already 6 or more characters, proceed to step 20

tap 'PIN'

Secure start-up

Decide on Secure start-up.

If you choose 'YES'; or on older devices 'Require PIN to start device'; this will set the new PIN to start the phone; if it has been restarted; and set it to login to the phone.
If you choose 'NO'; or on older devices 'No, thanks'; the new PIN will only be set to login to the phone

On an older device tap 'Continue'

Extra permissions

Drag down from the top of the screen to see prompts for additional MaaS360 required permissions.

Tap 'MaaS360 needs Location permission'

Location

Part of the compliance to allow location when using the app, if you're happy to proceed, tap 'Allow'

Extra permissions

Drag down from the top of the screen to see prompts for additional MaaS360 required permissions.

Tap 'MaaS360 needs Phone permission'

IMEI

Part of the compliance to allow the app to collect the IMEI of your device; this does not contain personal information;

If prompted; and if you're happy to proceed; tap 'Allow'

Phone

Tap 'Allow' to permit MaaS360 to access your devices Phone app, so you can make calls from numbers in the MaaS360 app.

Location service

On the MaaS360 home screen, tap the Settings app, if the section 'Compliance Status' states 'Out of Compliance', tap it

Enable

Tap 'Enable Google Location Service in High Accuracy or Device Only mode'

Location

Tap 'Mode'

High accuracy

Tap 'High Accuracy', then tap the left arrow in the top left hand corner

Back to home screen

Tap the left hand arrow at the bottom of the screen and the device should confirm it is now in compliance.

Tap the left hand arrow in the top left hand corner twice, to return to the MaaS360 home screen

Set-up email

On the MaaS360 home screen, tap the Settings app

Settings

Tap 'Corporate Settings'

Mail

Tap 'Configure Email'

The Mail app now needs installing.

Tap Continue, then tap 'Install'

Installed

Tap the app switcher button at the bottom of the screen; the square icon; and open the MaaS360 app, then tap 'Configure Email' again

Enter password

Enter your MacIntyre email password, then tap 'SIGN IN'

Contacts

Tap 'Allow'

Emails

You will then see your emails.

Tap the 3 lines in the top left hand corner of Mail and tap the MaaS360 icon, to return to the home screen

Install other apps

Whilst most of the required apps are pre-installed in MaaS360, you will need to install Browser and Editor.

On the MaaS360 home screen, tap each of them in turn and you will be prompted to install them from the Play Store.

Tap 'Continue', then tap 'Install'

Apps

These apps are accessible from either the MaaS360 app or from your home screen. If you open Editor or Browser from the home screen, you will be prompted to login. This is the same passcode as the MaaS360 app.

Signature
