How to find out my computers IP address

An IP address is needed by any computer that needs to use a network for accessing network drives, networks printers and the internet. Without it none if this works.

Below are instructions on how to find out the IP address of your computer.

Run

Right click on the START button in the lower left hand corner of the computer and select RUN

Type cmd

In the box RUN that appears, type cmd then click OK

Type ipconfig

A black box will appear on the computer. Don't worry about where to type, but make sure you click the black box to type in it.

Type ipconfig then press the ENTER key on the keyboard

Find the IP address

A series of technical numbers and references will appear in the black box.

Depending on how you connect to the network; wifi or network cable, look for the section titled WIRELESS LAN ADAPTOR WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTION for wifi or ETHERNET ADAPTOR LOCAL AREA CONNECTION for a network cable. You are looking for reference IP ADDRESS or IPv4 ADDRESS, make a note of the four numbers separated by full stops. You may need to scroll the up the black box to find them.

Done

Once you've noted the four numbers, type EXIT in the black box to close it.
